It is normal for parents, guardians and caretakers to have questions regarding matters related to the mental health of a child. Asking around and using search engines is a common way to look for answers. However, meeting the professional hour will answer most of your inquiries.
Focus Funds first "professional hour" was
with Ms.Joumana Ammar a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the
American University of Beirut Medical Center. On Friday the 26th of
January attendees gathered at College Hall in AUB to actively participate. Ms.
Joumana covered main topics related to Anxiety in children
and adolescents. She highlighted the importance to talk to your child
and make them feel safe. The common misconception of having anxiety as a
sign of weakness, was clarified as some children and adolescents may be
predisposed to anxiety. Techniques on how to sooth
and decrease anxiety was also mentioned through physical
sensations and muscle relaxation. The importance of the parents role was
evidently explained. Over all the attendees left the session with a broader and
more balanced comprehension of the topic.
